Raised in the Irish raving party scene, now relocated in Newcastle, Ben Prophet is one of the talents to keep an eye on with his “Hyper Funk EP“.
His release perfectly represents his dominant sounds. And the main track style, mixing gritty, piercing drums with fragmented sounding vocals and drums to create a raw blend of techno-induced beats.
“This EP has been in the works for quite some time now and being able to finally give it to the world as my debut is so exciting. I believe the title track, “Hyper Funk” really was the first tune I made that started to mould my sound into what it is today and for that it will always hold a special place in my heart”.(Taken from “Chapeau Music Talks w/ Ben Prophet”).
The remix of Tommy 2000 gives a DnB touch to the EP, rolling drums and crumbling sounds command the sound of his re-interpretation.
“Tommy is not only probably one of THE BEST producers around at the moment but I would consider him to be one of my best friends. When I first met Tommy I said that I wanted him to remix Hyper Funk and I knew it was going to be carnage from the moment he said yes! I am so incredibly proud of him and I feel so lucky to be involved in his amazing journey”.(Taken from “Chapeau Music Talks w/ Ben Prophet”).
The other tracks “GTFB“, “In Too Deep” and “Get Up And Dance“. Are three speedy raw techno dancefloor-oriented tracks, three useful weapons if you need something to use to burn your soundsystem!.
“My sound now in comparison to when I started producing techno over a year ago has really taking a more personal and unique turn, I feel like now my music is far more recognizable as me. Since learning the ins and outs of the genre I always wanted to get to a point with my songs where people could instantly recognize my style and I think I’m finally getting to that point now”.(Taken from “Chapeau Music Talks w/ Ben Prophet”).
