August 28th marked the beginning of the emblematic Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert. Nine days of art, music, delirium and lucid dreams disconnected from the " civilization" of the modern world. This year's special theme is entitled: Waking Dreams.

Even computers can have waking dreams! @ibareitall is a visual storyteller who uses «Artificial Intelligence» to generate unique works of art, dreamed up by his machine.

He recently created this intriguing piece using a new technique called VQGAN +CLIP, a neural network architecture. Give the program some text and an initial reference image, and the AI dreams up a new artwork based on these two inputs. The image above is the Burning Man 2022 theme design by @tannerboeger. The 2nd image is @ibareitall’s AI creation.

Burning Man, on the other hand, is a global ecosystem of artists, creatives and community organizers who co-create art, events and local initiatives around the world. Tens of thousands of Burners gather annually to build Black Rock City. A metropolis that is a temporary home in the desert with a «sacred» monument called The Man. A giant wooden figure that is set on fire at the end of each gathering.

Isolated from the world, the attendees await the celebration with pagan overtones that concludes with the burning of the wooden man the next September 5. The wooden man has reached a height of more than 12 meters.

This is a culture of possibility. A network of doer dreamers. An ephemeral sustainable and engaging city.

At Burning Man there is room for all forms of artistic expression. What is not allowed is the exchange of money, because one of the main objectives of the festival is to share. For this reason, no commerce or brands are allowed.

Attendees should bring everything they need to subsist during the week, as well as anything they want to give to other attendees. There is no coverage for cell phones or computers.

Every year since 1986 has been growing, the original event started on a beach in San Francisco. Where a group of friends celebrated the summer solstice by burning a wooden figure more than two meters high. In the early 90’s the festival became so famous that it moved to the Nevada desert. Where almost 100,000 souls from all over the world have gathered to create, share and live an unprecedented experience.
